Planning your wedding during the winter months may seem cold and challenging, but if planned correctly, winter weddings offer a cozy and magical atmosphere with dreamy snow-filled photos.

The Green House at Highland Ave is a new wedding venue located in Scarborough, Maine that allows you to feel outdoors while staying warm. sounds perfect right? We thought so too and knew it would be the perfect location for our winter wedding stylized shoot.

Our concept for this shoot was to design something that felt clean, organic, and made you feel like you were in nature. To create this vision, we used wooden elements, a monochromatic color palette, organic and lush winter greens, and clean and simple details. We were inspired by Scandinavian design and the concept of Hygge. While the Danish word can’t be directly translated in English, it suggests a general sense of comfort, charm, simplicity, and community. All perfect description words for a cozy winter wedding.

Winter Ceremony with Pine Trees Green House

We brought the forest inside to create an intimate and enchanting candle-lit ceremony space. For real weddings, we would have turned this location into a photo area for the reception. We love to find ways to reuse flowers, spaces, and decor from the ceremony whenever possible.

The floral design included lush amounts of cedar, pine trees, and limited flowers… yes you read that right… limited wedding florals. We featured a large hanging wreath at the ceremony location and a whimsical, organic branch installment above the table. The branches were hand foraged by the florist Chevaughn Marie Designs and enhanced the organic/forest aesthetic we were envisioning.

Our color palette was primarily neutral and understated with a small pop of navy blue on the tables. The wedding stationery created by Little Ivy Paper Goods was monochromatic and included pen sketches of a simple pine tree and the greenhouse. Don’t forget, the little and simple details can make a big statement. The wooden chargers and sand-stone taper candles were the perfect elements to pair with the cedar table runner, completing the forest-inspired design.

The cutting cake was a delicious layered spiced cake created by Bear Brook Bakery. I think the simplicity of the cake with the touch of dried floral speaks for its self.

We hope this feature gave you a sense of Hygge and are now inspired to hold a winter wedding. Please reach out, we would love to make your winter wedding dreams happen.
