Rustic Chic Maine Barn Wedding

After 5 years of dating, Ryan proposed to Jill on Cousins Island and they tied the knot in July 2020 at The Barn at Smith Farm in Falmouth, Maine. Due to Covid, they had to reduce their guest count, but that didn’t stop them from throwing an epic, chic, and safe wedding. The couple and their family and friends were some of the most loving and positive people we have ever worked with. My favorite part of micro-weddings is the true feeling of intimacy and closeness of the group celebrating together. Jill and Ryan’s wedding was a perfect example of this.

Jill and Ryan hired us for design services and we couldn’t wait to bring their vision to life. Jill had selected the bridesmaid’s dresses based on the mauve hues of succulents and we wanted to continue this inspiration throughout the design with hints of color in the floral and with the high top linen. One of Jill’s requests was to use lots of succulents but didn’t want it to look like every other succulent wedding. Don’t you worry Jill, we got you.

We decided to focus on using earth tones, bronze metals, lots of textures, potted plants, and incorporating lush and earthy floral arrangements. Farm House Floral did an amazing job creating the florals and provided the hexagon arbor which truly made a statement. The simple greenery install above the bar with floating succulents and candles was simple in nature, but was just enough to add a statement piece inside the barn. The best part was all her guests were able to bring home all the plants and succulents at the end of the night. It was a great sustainable option that we hope to see more of!

About the Venue: The Barn at Smith Farm offers a beautifully restored barn and farmhouse that boasts so much character. They run as a farm to table restaurant Monday- Friday and provide all the delicious catering for weddings. The grounds of the venue include a waterfront ceremony location, a large well-maintained lawn for games, firepits, and a tent if needed, a large deck for cocktail hour or outside dining, and two adorable goats and a flock of geese. Inside the barn, there are beautiful chandeliers, a large wooden bar, a loft with seating or getting ready areas, and beautiful bathrooms. The venue itself does not require a lot of decor, it’s naturally stunning. A great Maine barn wedding venue option that is 15 minutes away from Portland!
